Ebook About An official guide to the most iconic legends and legendary creatures from the world of Magic: The Gathering The world of Magic: The Gathering is home to many fantastical characters and creatures, but perhaps none so intriguing as its legends. Legendary dragons, demons, angels, goblins, vampires, merfolk, wizards, and more roam the multiverse. These characters harken back to Magic’s early history, having been introduced in one of the first Magic card sets (1994’s Legends); new legends continue to tell epic stories in lore and on the battlefield through the present day.Magic: The Gathering: Legends showcases high-quality reproductions of the legendary card art from across the game's history—in many instances for the first time outside of the card frame—along with accompanying histories written by Jay Annelli. This collection also offers exclusive insight into the art and mythology behind some of Magic: The Gathering’s most powerful, popular, and enduring legends, including Niv-Mizzet, Emmara Tandris, Marit Lage, Sisay, Atraxa, the Eldrazi titans, Edgar Markov, Queen Marchesa, Zurgo, Pia Nalaar, Zacama, King Algenus Kenrith, Snapdax, and many, many more.Book Magic: The Gathering: Legends: A Visual History (Magic the Gathering) Review :
Jay Annelli's Legends: A Visual History is a great concept done dirty through terrible physical execution. The book, ostensibly a "visual" history of Magic: the Gathering's expansive cast of characters, is tiny. At just a hair over 5.5" by 7", even opened, it is smaller than standard American letter paper, and indeed even smaller than most non-art books I have on my shelves. The presentation of otherwise beautiful art is unfortunately available at a higher resolution on the internet, and in previous artbooks where one can often find similar images at much larger sizes. While Annelli's character write-ups are nice additions to provide background and context for the images, they are unfortunately not detailed or original enough to merit having this around even as *merely* a lore resource -- it's clear that the book intended to lean heavily into the *visual* side of its history. As frustrating, perhaps are the omissions. While the inclusion of planeswalkers might have made for an unwieldly volume, the absence of Karn from along his peers on the Weatherlight was something I noticed. Not only does the book lean on the *visual,* but it also leans on the *recent.* Entire segments of the history of Magic Story are simply unrepresented here - most having to do with Magic story prior to Mirrodin. In any book like this, one has to make choices, but the inclusion of Urza and Yawgmoth (both having had cards printed within the last few years) without an entry for Urza's brother Mishra, for example, is an odd choice. In other ways, the history isn't as recent as it might have been: this book might have been made a better lore resource, perhaps, if Wizards had commissioned or permitted Annelli to address the many new characters receiving cards in Core 2021, or in 2020's "Commander Legends," many of whom are new versions of old favorites -- characters like Jolrael, Radiant, Baron Sengir, and so on -- but who lack the story support or novelization we might have gotten years ago.If Wizards had been willing to publish this as a larger-scale art book, like its guides to Innistrad, Ravnica, and so on, this book would have been a wonderful addition to any Magic-lover's library. As it is, I would imagine it is only a must-have for completionist collectors of Magic-related media. This is a huge disappointment of a book, the writer missed several key legendary characters from throughout Magic’s rich history as well as planes. The book heavily focuses on newer sets and glances over characters from older sets there’s no chapters on Kamigawa or Lorwyn and barely anything on mirrodin. Whatever is written is a short paragraph that gives less info then the wiki for the game. Hope you like Ravnica cause that’s half this book.
